THE GLOBAL VILLAGE

It started somewhere...

Kasturi Dasgupta
Boula, Odisha (1991)
I have been an entrepreneur in my own right since 1991. Made paper packets out of newspapers for sale to a local co-op store.
Grounded in Numbers

Amitava Dasgupta
Boula, Odisha (1991)
My father, Amitava Dasgupta, ever the taskmaster, forced me to negotiate a contract for the sale of old newspapers.
After all, he could have sold them to our regular reseller instead of me. I had to negotiate payment terms not just for the old newspapers but also for electricity, cooking gas used to make the homemade glue from flour and water, and so on.
When I couldn’t afford to pay cash for the old newspapers (inflations was a killer even then), I negotiated payments by ironing his clothes.
And he was rarely happy about it.
Kasturi Dasgupta Designs
Since then, she dabbled in anything and everything - handkerchiefs, painted sarees/t-shirts/shoes, ghost writing, greeting cards, chutneys, real estate and more.

That legacy continues as our premium designs:
-
Digital Products
-
Homemade chutneys and preserves
-
Custom gifts boxe
End-to-end inhouse production and distribution are foundational capabilities in The Global Village Ecosystem.

In the Trenches

In 1992, her mother and our Chief Strategy Officer, Paula Dasgupta, launched her own company.
Kasturi was the entire workforce, deployed for clients as well when her mother was unable to hire appropriate talent for roles.
From cleaner to concierge, tech support to security, admin support to executive assistant – Kasturi has done it all.
She was also a silent observer in complex negotiations, learning business and management in real time.
